Two men stabbed over food order dispute

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – Deputies arrested a man for a stabbing at a restaurant after what started as a dispute over a food order.

James Edward Lowery Jr., 26, of Summerville, S.C. is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

The stabbing happened just before 8 p.m. Monday at Sr. Salsa at 1616 Woodruff Road.

Deputies say the restaurant owner and Lowery had an altercation over a food order that turned physical and that Lowery stabbed the owner several times.

A witness claims the suspect said “he was going to kill the victim,” according to an arrest warrant.

Investigators say the victim struck Lowery while defending himself, injuring Lowery. Both were taken to the hospital.

Deputies say their injuries are not life threatening.

Lowery was released from the hospital and booked into the Greenville County Detention Center.

7News spoke with the owner of Wysteria Salon & Spa, which is beside Sr. Salsa.

Jodie Reece said she spoke with the victim’s daughter Tuesday morning about what happened.

Reece said the woman told her the customer ordered a “large amount of food” and when it came time to pay the bill, Reece said that’s when the issue started.

“[He] confronted him just to say ‘Hey you have to pay your bill,’ and he had a box cutter and just went crazy with it,” said Reece.

Michelle Wade, the suspect’s mother, told 7News at the scene that her son’s co-worker who was there when the altercation happened relayed a different story to her.

“The manager put Jay in a headlock and David kept telling him just let him go, let him go, let him go. David said there were several behind him and they hit Jay over the head with liquor bottles,” Wade said.

Lowery remains in the Greenville County Detention Center without bond as of Wednesday morning.
