UNION, S.C. (WSPA) – Deputies say a Union County middle schooler who got sick and began losing consciousness had a backpack filled with several empty mini bottles of whisky.

A report from the Union County Sheriff’s Office says a 13-year-old appeared to be under the influence Friday at Sims Middle School.

The sick student was reportedly taken to Union Medical Center.

The principal found nine empty mini bottles of Fireball Cinnamon Whisky in the boy’s book bag, according to the report. A half-empty bottle was also found, along with two unopened bottles.

An undetermined number of bottles were passed out to other students, the report says.

The boy reportedly took the bottles from his grandfather without his knowledge.

Deputies arrested the student for public drunk and liquor law violations possession at the school.

The report says the boy was released to his mother’s custody.
