SPARTANBURG (WSPA)- Spartanburg Police arrested a man who they say fired shots into a swimming pool because he was upset over a breakup.

James Cameron Sanders, 25, was booked into the detention center after Spartanburg Police charged him Tuesday afternoon with discharging a firearm in the city.

Police say they were called to a home on Crystal Drive around 1:00 p.m. A caller to 911 said Sanders was firing shots from a pistol into a pool.

Sanders denied shooting the gun according to the incident report, but when officers searched the pool area, they say they found a Wesson .357 that was “fully cocked” on a picnic table. Bullets were spotted in the pool deep end.

Sanders was taken into custody by the officers who wrote in the incident report that Sanders said he was upset after just breaking up with his girlfriend of six years.

He was released from the Spartanburg County Detention Center Tuesday evening.
