Upstate emergency shelters to open ahead of storm

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Evacuation shelters are being opened in the Upstate ahead of Hurricane Florence.

Miracle Hill Ministries announced Tuesday they they’re offering the spaces for people trying to escape the storm and the homeless who do not already have temporary shelter.

“We always are thinking about those that are in need. It’s only by the grace of God that it’s not us seeking shelter,” said Becky Castro with Miracle Hill Ministries in Spartanburg. “A lot of people that are on the interstate they don’t have money for hotels.”

Officials said they’re monitoring the storm and will raise the white flag at four adult facilities Thursday evening to let folks know they’re open. They’re advising people in need to contact the shelter directly about how much space is available or to inquire about any other needs.
