ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A man who died in a vehicle fire and crash on Thursday on Highway 301 at Interstate 95 in Santee was from the Upstate.
The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office identified the man killed in the crash as Thomas R. Reeves, 45, of Boiling Springs.
Our sister station WCBD reported on Thursday that South Carolina Highway Patrol officials said via Twitter that Exit 97 north and south onto US-301 was closed due to a fatal crash that happened around 2:30 p.m.
According to WCBD, the vehicle fire was reportedly burning on the overpass over Interstate 95 and a large cloud of black smoke could be seen rising above the collision site.
Chief Deputy Coroner Sean Fogle said Reeves died from injuries sustained in the crash, but said his immediate cause of death is pending.
The case is still under the investigation.
