Upstate man’s body found 2 days after moped crash

Dogwood Boulevard fatal crash Travelers Rest Greenville County

GREENVILLE Co., S.C. (WSPA) — A Travelers Rest man’s body was found in a ditch days after an accident near his home.

The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 60-year-old Phillip Eugene Greer.

It’s believed Greer died around 1 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Dogwood Boulevard and Old Mush Creek Road. That’s less than a mile from where he lived.

Greer’s body and a moped were seen Monday in a ditch near the intersection. Other witnesses reported seeing the moped in the ditch since Saturday, but weren’t aware of the victim, according to the coroner.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the moped was traveling east on Old Mush Creek Road when it crossed the center line, ran off of the left side of the road and went down an embankment.

Highway Patrol said Greer was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Greer’s death remains under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol.

An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday.
