Upstate teen gives back to Greenville neonatal intensive care unit

News

Morgan Reynolds is Miss Palmetto Teen 2016, but when she was born, her parents weren’t sure her future would be bright.

Within hours, Morgan got an infection and developed pneumonia.

She was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Greenville Hospital for two weeks.

“We were worried.  We didn’t want to go home without our child,” said Morgan’s dad, Nathan Reynolds.

Seventeen years later, Morgan is healthy and using her platform to give back.

She started a non-profit organization called Birthday Bears.

She asks for donations around the Upstate, at school, and church.

When someone purchases a bear, they’re able to write a personalized note to a family of an infant in the NICU today.

Morgan takes the bears to the hospital and donates 100% of the money raised.

“Their face just lights up with joy because someone is actually thinking about them that’s not inside the NICU,” said Morgan.

In just a couple of months, she’s made several trips with full bags of bears.  She’s also raised more than a thousand dollars.

“I just wish there were more people like Morgan out there.  It’s just beautiful to see,” said Burgess Scott with the Children’s Miracle Network.
