PICKENS COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – Pickens County Sheriff’s Office officials said law enforcement officials were in the vicinity of two schools Friday morning as they chased a vehicle along Highway 123.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, Easley Police Department officers were chasing a white Toyota Celica on Highway 123 at around 11:20 a.m.

That vehicle was later found abandoned in the county on Six Mile Highway.

Chief Deputy Creed Hashe said deputies were in the area where the car was found, which is near RC Edwards Middle and Daniel High schools.

Hashe said they had no reason to believe that the schools were in any kind of danger.

“We have briefed administration with the School District. The operators of the vehicle were gone when the Sheriff’s Office arrived on Six Mile Highway. There is no type of ground search or manhunt at this time,” Hashe said.
