EASLEY, S.C. (WSPA) – The Easley Fire Department responded to a truck fire that caused all four lanes of Hwy 123 to be closed for about two and a half hours.

Around 9:00 a.m. Sunday, the fire department’s Facebook page announced the closure of Hwy 123 near the intersection of Brushy Creek Rd. due to a vehicle fire.

According to the post, the fire caused a large fuel leak that needed to be contained, with the assistance of the Pickens County Hazmat Team.

The road was back open by 11:30 a.m., the fire department says.

Firefighters say they found a Chevrolet pick-up truck that was carrying a 30-gallon spare gas tank in the bed of the truck.

The crews used an attack line, dry chemical fire extinguishers, and foam before the fire could be extinguished.

The foam was used to blanket the fuel that has spilled from the ruptured fuel tank.

A portable fire pit was found in the back of the truck.

Firefighters say that the pit must have reignited, causing fire to spread to the portable gas tank.
