Victim autopsy: Belton man accused of killing friend with shotgun

We’ve learned the name of the suspect and victim involved in a shooting near Belton Wednesday night in Anderson County.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office says Matthew Skelton, 26, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

The Anderson County coroner says 24-year-old Colt Randall Jennings was shot and killed.

The autopsy shows that Jennings died from a gunshot wound to the chest. Coroner Charlie Boseman says the wound was from a shotgun.

The sheriff’s office says a call was made to 911 by around 10:12 p.m. Wednesday for a reported shooting on Roger Bolt Rd.

Deputies arrived to find Jennings shot in front of his house.

The sheriff’s office says Skelton called 911 after the shooting. Deputies went to Skelton’s location on Sylvia Road and arrested him.

Deputies tell us Skelton also shot at another person and their vehicle.

They say Jennings and Skelton knew each other.

They’re still investigating what led up to the shooting.

An autopsy for Jennings is planned for today.
