News

GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Greenville Police Department officials released video of an attempted carjacking that happened last week in downtown Greenville.

We reported earlier that dispatch received a call from a woman who said a man had tried to carjack her at the intersection of East Coffee Street and North Main Street.

In the video, you see a man — later identified as Joshua Joseph Perini, 35 — walking toward the intersection on the double line.

Perini then heads to the first car stopped at the stoplight at the intersection, speaks to the woman and then opens her car door.

The woman then tries to grab the door back and a struggle begins.

A driver behind the woman’s vehicle gets out of their vehicle and tries to help her.

Another individual walking on the sidewalk comes over and help push Perini away from the woman’s car.

The woman was then able to drive away.

We reported earlier that the woman was not seriously injured during the incident and there was no damage to her vehicle.

Perini was charged with carjacking.
