Walhalla police chief under investigation by SLED resigns


WALHALLA, S.C. (WSPA) — City officials confirmed that SLED is investigating Walhalla Police Chief Ronald Wilbanks, who resigned on Tuesday. 

Walhalla City Administrator Brent Taylor confirmed Wilbanks’ resignation and confirmed Wilbanks was under investigation by SLED.

He said Capt. Paul Harris will now serve as the interim chief.

Taylor couldn’t comment on the specifics of the investigation, but did tell us that he believes Wilbanks is the only person under investigation.

He said Wilbanks’ resignation was unexpected. Taylor said Wilbanks did not comment on the reason for his resignation, which was effective immediately.

Wilbanks had served as chief for about six years.
