Walhalla Police: Shooter acted in self-defense, no charges filed

WALHALLA, S.C. (WSPA) – The Oconee County coroner said a man has died from injuries he suffered in a shooting.

Walhalla Police responded Tuesday morning to a disturbance call at Country Ridge Apartments on Pine Manor Circle.

Police said the shooting victim, Angel Rodriguez Jr., 31, of Walhalla, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was laying on the floor when they arrived.

Rodriguez was taken to Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Coroner Karl Addis said the Rodriguez died from his injuries at about 12:10 a.m. Wednesday. 

Rodriguez’s death was ruled as a homicide.

After a full investigation and an autopsy, Walhalla Police Department investigators and the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office determined that the incident was self-defense. 

No charges will be brought against the shooter, according to Walhalla Police.
