WEST PELZER, SC (WSPA) – All week long Clemson fans have celebrated their second national title win in different ways. Some big like the championship parade on Saturday, but others small.
Nearly 30 miles separate the Town of West Pelzer and Clemson University, but no amount of distance can take away the passion of Clemson fans.
With a truck full of tools and the official Clemson orange paint from Home Depot, Blake Sanders, who’s in his first term as Mayor of West Pelzer, packs everything up to head out on his community mission.
Sanders goes from driveway to driveway dragging a stencil more than three feet wide and long. He’s painting the official Clemson Tiger paw on the driveways of the residents who requested one. He has more than more in all and not all are just in his town limits.
“I’ve always said the mayors job is to be a visionary and to me the tiger paw is more than Clemson football it’s about love and Coach Swinney has taught us to love one another and at the end of the day the mayors job is to love his community,” Sanders said.
This project all started with a Facebook post when the mayor posted that he wanted to paint Main Street orange, but since not everyone is a Tiger fan he’s personalized the project to only paint the driveways of residents who request one.
Sanders tells 7News he’s going to keep the stencil so in case any of the paws wears off he can come back and touch it up.
