Widow of firefighter killed in GCSO chase settles lawsuit


GREENVILLE Co., SC (WSPA) — The widow of a firefighter killed as Greenville County deputies chased a suspect has settled a lawsuit.

Amber Childs Howard filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Greenville County and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office for the death of her husband Jordan Barry Howard . 

Jordan was headed to work at North Greenville Fire Department when he was hit as sheriff’s deputies pursued a suspect in September 2015.  

Amber Howard was awarded $225,000 in the settlement. The widow’s attorney fees total more than $92,000, according to the order filed on May 25.

The couple were parents to a young daughter at the time of Jordan’s death.
