Williamston Youth Academy shutting down

News

WILLIAMSTON, SC (WSPA) – The Williamston Youth Academy has announced they are voluntarily relinquishing their group home license through DSS.

Following the announcement, all 24 kids were placed in new group homes as of Wednesday.

The youth academy told DSS and community stakeholders that it was so the facility could go through a full transformation and reboot.

“It was a mutual decision between DSS and us. We work collaboratively with them. We felt it was the best interest of the kids,” Meridian Behavioral Health System said. “We hope to open again someday.”

Earlier this month we told you about William Avery Moulton-Fowler — a man charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor – 3rd degree — who was once over the educational department at the Williamston Youth Academy at one time.

In March, a fire was reported at the youth academy and SLED was assisting in the investigation. No one was hurt in the fire.

Last October, we reported on the four teens who ran away from the Williamston Youth Academy. The teens were later found.
