Woman, 4 children not hurt in Inman fire

INMAN, S.C. (WSPA) — A woman and four young children were not hurt in an early-morning fire in Inman.

The trailer fire was reported just before 6 a.m. Tuesday at 2181 Compton Bridge Road. 

Inman Community Fire Department Chief Ed Hershberger said the kitchen and back porch were on fire when crews arrived on scene. The fire was extinguished by 6:30 a.m. 

A woman and four children, all younger than 10 years old, were not hurt, he said. 

Chapman High School is about a mile and a half from the fire scene. 

Compton Bridge Road was blocked for at least an hour. 

Inman Community, Campobello and New Prospect fire departments responded to the scene.

The American Red Cross says volunteers are helping two adults and three children. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
