GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – Greenville Police Department officials said a charge against a woman accused in the homicide case of Julie Valentine has been amended.

According to police department spokesperson Donnie Porter, the charge of homicide by child abuse against Brook Graham, 53, has been amended to a charge of murder.

Graham is the birth mother of the deceased newborn, known as Julie Valentine, who was found abandoned in a vacant lot on Hilton Street in 1990.

Police said Graham’s revised charge stemmed from a review of the charging document filed on April 3.

“The GPD discovered that the initial charge of Homicide by Child Abuse was not enacted into law at the time of Julie Valentine’s death. The applicable law at the time was Murder.”

On April 22, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for murder and Graham was served with the new arrest warrant at the Greenville County Detention Center.

Police said the initial charge will be dismissed by the 13th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

According to the release, Graham remains in the detention center with no bond.
