Woman charged after vandalizing headstones at Graham Co. cemetery, deputies say

GRAHAM CO., NC (WSPA) – Deputies have charged an Oregon woman after they say she knocked over dozens of headstones at a Graham County cemetery, Saturday.

According to the Graham County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Dawn Rene Phillips of Pendleton, Oregon is charged with 61 counts of Disturbing a Casket or Grave Marker and Disorderly Conduct in a Public Building/Facility and Injury to a Public Building/Facility.

Deputies say she knocked over 61 headstones at Lone Oak cemetery. They also say she urinated on the front door of Lone Oak Baptist Church.

Phillips was arrested in Andrews, NC after Cherokee County Deputies found her vehicle.

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office says surveillance video showed the suspect knocking over the headstones.
