GREER, S.C. (WSPA) – Greer Police Department officials arrested a woman on multiple charges, including involuntary manslaughter, following an investigation into a man’s shooting death.
According to a police department news release, officers charged Victoria Diane Tharp with involuntary manslaughter, pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, obstructing justice and identity fraud.
We reported on Thursday that Christopher Scott Weir, 31, of Duncan, was found in a home on Bent Creek Drive.
The coroner’s office said Weir suffered at least one gunshot wound at about 10:45 a.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy performed on Friday confirmed that Weir died from a gunshot wound to the chest and his manner of death was deemed a homicide.
According to an arrest warrant, Tharp reportedly pointed a firearm at Weir believing it was not loaded and then pulled the trigger, firing one round into his chest and killing him.
Police officials said Tharp was arrested on Thursday on an unrelated possession of methamphetamine charge, and after her arrest she lied to investigators about her true identity. Tharp reportedly gave her sister’s name instead of her own.
Tharp is currently being held at the Greer Police Department pending a bond hearing.
Greer Police and the coroner’s office are continuing to investigate the incident.
