South Carolina Highway Patrol said a pedestrian died Friday after she was hit by a vehicle on Clemson Boulevard in Anderson County.
Anderson County dispatchers said the crash happened at about 7 a.m. on Clemson Boulevard near George Smith Mill Road.
Anderson County Deputy Coroner Don McCown said Ashley Sexton Nichols, 31, of Anderson, was walking a dog with her boyfriend when she misjudged traffic and walked out in front of a car while attempting to cross Clemson Blvd.
Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene, McCown said. She died from multiples traumatic injuries.
McCown said drug use may have been an contributory factor as to why she walked out in front of traffic.
Troopers said the driver was not injured and will not be charged in the crash.
SCHP, EMS, the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and the Anderson County Coroner’s Office all responded to the scene.
