A woman has been charged with shoplifting after a meat theft at Walmart in Boiling Springs.

Amanda Lenora Melton, 26, was charged with shoplifting by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say she placed four large packages of meat into her purse and left the store on Highway 9 without paying Tuesday evening.

A Walmart employee says he followed Melton into the parking lot where she tried to get into a car being driven by an unidentified man. Melton refused his order to come back into the store with him, jumped into the car and told the man to “drive, drive.”

The employee told the driver he would be considered an accessory if he drove off. The incident report shows Melton got out and ran away.

The driver of the car then left with the purse and meat in the vehicle.

Another Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrested Melton a short time later. She’s being held Wednesday morning at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
