World’s oldest known fossil forest found in NY

News

NEW YORK (CNN NEWSOURCE) – Scientists have found the world’s oldest forest dating back to 385 million years.

Researchers found a fossilized root system at the bottom of an abandoned quarry in Cairo, New York, about 40 miles south of Albany.

They even found fish fossils near the largest trees.

Scientists believe a catastrophic flood killed most of the trees in the forest and preserved the root system as fossils.
