YANCEY Co., NC (WSPA) – The NC State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Yancey Co.

They say Bobby Lovin, 62, was shot and killed by Yancey Co. Deputy Billy J. Casteel, 36, on March 16.

SBI says Castell was responding to a domestic violence call at Uncle Harvey’s Lane.

Lovin had an active domestic violence protective against him and he had allegedly broken into his wife’s home, according to the report.

The report said Lovin was wielding an axe when Casteel got to the scene.

Lovin ignored the deputy’s commands to drop the weapon and was shot when he moved closer to his wife.

Casteel fired once, killing Lovin.

An autopsy is being conducted today, according to SBI and they are continuing to investigate.
