After nearly 60 years of operation, Bonnie Brae Golf Club, a public course near Mauldin, is closing July 1st, owner Sonny Willimon announced this past weekend, as reported by scgolfclub.com.

Willimon tells the publication that business declined with the recession a decade ago and severe weather this past winter impacted his greens and led to fewer rounds played.

He does not rule out selling the course but tells scgolfclub that he’s “not optimistic.”

The course opened in 1961 with nine holes and expanded to 18 in 1964.
