CLEMSON, S.C. – Seth Beer’s two-out single on an 0-2 pitch in the 11th inning scored Chase Pinder for the winning run in Clemson’s 7-6 walkoff win over Furman at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Wednesday night. The Tigers, who swept the home-and-home season series, improved to 29-15, while the Paladins, who saw their five-game winning streak end, fell to 20-25. It also extended Clemson’s winning streak over Furman to 15 games and was Clemson’s fourth win when trailing entering the ninth inning in 2016.

Clemson scored two runs in the second inning on Chase Pinder’s two-run single, then the Tigers added two runs in the fourth inning. After Furman scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, Jordan Greene belted a solo homer, the first of his career, in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend Clemson’s lead to 5-1.

Furman cut Clemson’s lead in half with two runs in the seventh inning and took the lead in the eighth inning with three runs, capped by Jordan Simpson’s two-run single. But Chris Okey belted a one-out double and tied the score in the ninth inning on a wild pitch with two outs. Then in the 11th inning, Pinder led off with a walk and scored from third base on Beer’s two-out, walkoff single down the left-field line, which extended his on-base streak to 40 games.

Alex Eubanks (4-4) earned the win, as he gave up just one hit, no runs and no walks with one strikeout in 3.0 innings pitched (31 pitches). Starter Ryley Gilliam surrendered only one hit, no runs and no walks with one strikeout in 4.0 innings pitched (32 pitches) in a scheduled short start. Jake Crawford (0-4) suffered the loss.

The Tigers host No. 9 NC State in a three-game series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m.
