Good Start By Easley’s Chapman Not Enough For USC

Easley’s Logan Chapman pitched 5.1 strong innings, striking out four, but did not figure in the decision as North Carolina rolled to an 11-3 victory over South Carolina Tuesday night at Charlotte’s BB&T Stadium.

The Tar Heels have scored 46 runs against the Gamecocks in their three meetings since 2016 at the Uptown Charlotte ballpark.

Chris Cullen gave USC a 2-1 lead with a solo home run in the second, his third round tripper of the season.

South Carolina led 3-1 when Chapman was chased in the top of the sixth and his line showed three earned runs and four hits allowed after North Carolina pushed the tying runs across in that fram.

The Tar Heels Zach Gahagan snapped a 3-3 tie with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth. UNC added three more runs in that inning and four more in the ninth to ice the game.

South Carolina falls to 17-12 overall with the loss.  North Carolina improves to 19-10.
