Former Ohio State assistant coach Dave Dickerson has been named as the new head men’s basketball coach at USC-Upstate. The school will formally introduce Dickerson at a news conference on campus in Spartanburg on Thursday.
Dickerson is an Olar, South Carolina native who is currently employed by the NBA’s Utah Jazz. He spent the previous seven season as an assistant coach at Ohio State University.
“We could not be more pleased that Coach Dickerson will return to his home state to lead the Spartans,” said Chancellor Brendan Kelly in a written statement. “With 12 NCAA post-season appearances, eight Sweet Sixteens, three Final Fours and a National Championship, he brings an all-new level of experience to the Upstate region, and we look forward to a fantastic future.”
Dickerson has five years of head coaching experience at Tulane University. The Green Wave basketball program that had registered just one winning season during the five years prior to his arrival. He guided the Tulane to back-to-back winning seasons in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
