SPARTANBURG, S.C. –

(Wofford SID) The Wofford College football team began preparation for the 2016 season with the first day of practice on Friday. The sun was out in full force on the hot and humid afternoon as the Terriers were on the field for approximately two hours.

The team reported to campus on Thursday, with equipment fitting in the afternoon and several meetings held on Thursday night. On Friday morning at 6:00 a.m., those players not on campus for the majority of the summer workouts took the conditioning test. Following a morning walk-through and afternoon meetings, the team started the first practice at 3:30 pm. The team worked in position groups for the majority of practice, with a limited amount of team drills.

“It was the first practice and the guys came out and tried real hard,” said head coach Mike Ayers. “It was a little hot, but the effort was there until the heat got a few of them at the very end. We have miles and miles to go. I truly believe we have the talent, we just have to get to where we are consistent with the execution, take care of the football and be a solid defense that tackles well in space. We were in helmets today for the first day of acclimation and hopefully tomorrow we will be better.”

Wofford will practice again at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The team will be in shoulder pads for the first time on Sunday morning and move to full pads on Tuesday.
