This Week in History – Armed Forces Day

This Week in History sponsored by the Upcountry History Museum:
Armed Forces Day (may 19) is celebrated on the third Saturday of May. It is an opportunity for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

The formation of Armed Forces Day was announced in 1949 to replace separate events to honor the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force. The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the armed forces under the Department of Defense. The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated on May 20, 1950.

Make sure that you continue this 68 year tradition by reaching out and thanking a military service member or visit the Upcountry History Museum on Saturday, for their Second Annual Armed Forces Day Event.
