HENDERSON CO, NC (WSPA) – Thursday, Henderson County Public Schools will host registration for kindergartners on April 9th, 10th, and 11th.
Families with five year olds, their birthdays must be on or before August 31st, will register their children for the coming school year.
To help those families the county hosts its annual Kindergarten Readiness Rally on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Blue Ridge Mall, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Henderson County’s Public Information Officer, Molly Mcgowan Gorsuch, explained how the rally will give parents firsthand registration information.
“They can meet their teachers, meet their school nurses, their administrators, really get plugged into the school communities that they’re going to be in,“ McGowan Gorsuch said.
Meanwhile, the kids will get free books and a chance to practice getting on and off a school bus.
Additionally, 36 local nonprofits will host hands-on activities that encourage logical thinking, math, reading, color recognition, and fine motor skills.
Smart Start Partnership for Children’s Program Support Specialist, Kelly Hart, added that the purpose for the rally is a multilayered one.
“Being prepared for kindergarten is not just about academic skills it’s also about social skills, cognitive skills, language skills. We try to put all those things together with all these fun activities at the mall.“
