This is our 10th Annual Arboretum Event to raise local awareness about our campus arboretum and support continued development of the outdoor classroom it provides for students in our Horticulture Technology Program.
Mark Weathington is our keynote speaker. He is Director of the J.C. Raulston Arboretum at N.C. State University, named in memory of the inspirational professor who built a collection plants that engaged students and the southeaster nursery industry. Mark carries on J.C.’s mission of Planting a Better World and believes life is too short for boring plants.
We are excited to have Mark as our speaker because our campus arboretum has been largely inspired by collection and cultivation procedures practiced by the Raulston Arboretum. We are eager to hear about the latest plants they have found to be successful in our region, hear about his international exploration, trade a few rare plants to further diversify each of our collections, and possibly commiserate about Hurricane Florence storm damage.
Mark is author of Gardening in the South. His book will be available for purchase at the event.
